Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

June 7-13, 2017

(Again, I am grateful to monks back home who have relayed some news to me of the happenings around the house while I am studying Spanish with Br. Nathaniel in San Antonio during June. -Br. Simon)

We congratulate and give our prayerful support to Archbishop Charles Thompson who has been named the seventh Archbishop of Indianapolis. Archbishop Thompson served as the Bishop of Evansville prior to being named Archbishop of Indianapolis.

On Pentecost Sunday, Archabbot Kurt presided, and Brother Peduru assisted as deacon. Additionally, Fathers Christian and Germain were priest assistants, and several of the One Bread, One Cup interns helped in various roles, including with music, at the Eucharist.

During the summer, Brothers Peduru and Lorenzo are working and living at parishes in Indianapolis and New Albany, respectively. They both left this week for those assignments.

Father Paul is helping in various sacramental and ministerial capacities at St. Meinrad and St. Boniface parishes.

Father Patrick will begin work in the Owensboro Marriage Tribunal.

Father Prior John served as the principal celebrant at our Trinity Sunday Eucharist, and he also preached. Brother David (visiting Benedictine from Togo) assisted as deacon.

Also, on Sunday, several members of our Einsiedeln Society joined our community for Mass, Vespers and a banquet on Sunday. The list of new benefactors was blessed and added to the St. Meinrad Shrine in the Archabbey Church during Vespers on Sunday. Every year, new benefactors' names are added to the list of all those who have supported us with their treasure. This list is kept in the St. Meinrad triptych shrine in the Archabbey Church.

On Monday, June 12, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the death of Father Damian.

Also on Monday, the One Bread, One Cup participants of our first conference arrived. Father Archabbot Kurt presided at their opening Eucharist. Additionally, several oblates are spending some time with us for their summer Study Days.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
