Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

June 14-20, 2017

Editor's note: Again, I am grateful for the news back home at the monastery, particularly from Fr. Prior John. I am continuing my Spanish studies this week in San Antonio, TX.

Keep Archabbot Kurt, Fr. Prior John, Fr. Adrian and Br. John Mark in your prayers as they travel to the General Chapter at Conception Abbey this week. Also, keep in prayer several members of our community who are traveling to give or attend summer conferences and retreats and traveling for vacation.

"One Bread, One Cup" had their reconciliation service in the Archabbey Church Wednesday night -- a highlight for many of the participants. In addition to receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the students are able to sit in the monastic choir stalls.

Fathers Harry and Justin traveled to Indianapolis on Thursday and joined other religious ordinands to hear the confessions of the bishops gathered in Indianapolis.

Our first conference of "One Bread, One Cup" ended after lunch on Friday. Additionally, Brother Martin and Brother Michael Moran, CP, began their artists' retreat.

We interred Father Damian's cremains on Saturday. About a dozen monks were present at the cemetery for the ceremony and a large number of parishioners and friends.

On Saturday, Father Julian returned from a retreat he gave in West Virginia.

On the Feast of Corpus Christi, Father Prior John presided at Mass and Office, and Father Paul read the Gospel and preached at our Eucharist. Several of the "One Bread, One Cup" interns helped with the Eucharistic celebration. Several of their family members attended the Mass. Father Eugene departed on Sunday for Cleveland, Ohio, to give a retreat.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
