Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

July 24-30, 2017

Our confrere Father Barnabas died suddenly and unexpectedly in the early hours Friday morning of a heart attack. Thank you for your prayers for his soul and our community. Here is a link to his obituary and details about the Office of the Dead and funeral arrangements.

Wednesday was the actual anniversary of Father Archabbot Kurt's blessing as abbot, but we transferred it to coincide with the July 16 Solemnity of Our Lady of Einsideln this year.

We are very grateful for the work of Catholic Heart Work Camp high school and adult volunteers who helped us this week with grounds work, gazebo renovations, a flower garden behind the monastery and cleaning some of our buildings.

We had colloquium at dinner to honor Father Abbot's feast day on Thursday. He was away, however, with Father Subprior Guerric, Father Denis R., and Father Harry for the Solemn Vespers before Archbishop Charles Thompson's installation as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

The Installation Mass took place on Friday and Fathers Subprior Guerric, Denis R., Harry, Julian and Godfrey represented and attended. Brother Peduru also joined them from his diaconate assignment at Sts. Francis and Clare parishes. Father Julian was one of the Masters of Ceremonies.

Also, regarding the installation of Archbishop Thompson, Brother Kim created the chasuble worn by Archbishop Thompson during his installation. Here is a link about that.

On Saturday, Father Bede returned from his sabbatical, and Father Lambert returned from some on-the-road work to give a day of recollection for the Alumni Reunion.

On Sunday, the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates' sabbaticant priests concelebrated at our Eucharist. Father Thomas served as Mass heb, and Brother Zachary begins his week as Office heb.

The Alumni Reunion kicked off this Sunday evening and will take place through Wednesday morning. Here is a schedule for the Reunion. Some of the "One Bread, One Cup" college interns stayed around to help serve in various hospitality capacities at the Reunion.‚Äč
