Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

January 10-16, 2017

Our Father Rupert died Saturday morning as he was getting ready for vigils and lauds. Father Rupert will certainly be remembered for his compassion and precision. Read more about Father Rupert here.

Abbot James Albers from St. Benedict's Abbey in Atchison, Kansas, was in town for a few days visiting with his Brother Luke, who is studying in our seminary.

For more than a decade now, the Delta Chi fraternity has held its undergraduate president's academy here at Saint Meinrad. Nearly 150 undergraduate presidents, staff and volunteers for Delta Chi were here this weekend.

We started a new book at dinner recently. It is another David McCullough book:The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris.

Candidate Joseph, who will be invested as a novice on January 19, recently wrote a blog post for the Church Life Journal through Notre Dame, reflecting on receiving guests as Christ: Welcoming the Guest as Christ.

Novice Joshua and Candidate Joseph took down the ornaments from our Christmas tree last week, and they also took down our Christmas trees from the calefactory and refectory.

Again, pray for our soon-to-be-invested novice, Joseph, and also for Novice Joshua, who will make his first vows at First Vespers of the Feast of St. Meinrad on Friday.

And, thank you for your prayers for our community as we celebrate the life, prayer and work of Father Rupert.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
