Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

December 27, 2016 - January 2, 2017

Several of our confreres returned home for Christmas and these days after Christmas: Father Raymond, Father Warren, Father Justin, Father Mark, Father Edward, Father Brendan, Father Patrick and Brother John.

Brother John Mark returned in mid-December from his sabbatical, where he wrote a book. More details soon!

On Tuesday, Father Prior John celebrated his feast day (along with Brother John). We enjoyed colloquium (talking) at our main meal.

The juniors hosted a feast day party for Brother Stephen at the Placidium on Friday. The featured dessert was a treat baked by our Brother Kolbe: A triple-layer cake, and each cake had its own pie inside.

From the 28th through the 1st, we had 7 monastic observers join us for our liturgies, work and meals. They worked on waxing some of our floors, and they are literally squeaky clean now.

On Sunday, Father Prior John presided at our Eucharist for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, and Father Joseph preached. We had colloquium (talking) at our main meal.

Our visiting brother, Brother Cassian from Subiaco Abbey, was ordained to the diaconate on Friday.

Brother Maurus and crew mailed several packets' worth of retreat brochures (19,000 brochures in total!) to parishes for their information racks. This brochure features the 2017-2018 monastery Guest House retreats. Here is more information about our retreat program: Monastery Retreats

Brother Francis posted some new blog posts: The trouble with Christmas, Theotokos and Distractions in Prayer.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
