Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

August 7-13, 2017

Ding dong! Bell 6 is back. A crew reinstalled Bell 6 last week, and we had our first full 6-bell peal for the Solemnity of the Assumption (on Tuesday of this week). We ring all 6 bells for Office and Mass when the Abbot presides -- he presided at Office and Mass for the solemnity.

It takes four monks to ring all 6 bells. Bells 1 and 2 have one ringer as do bells 3 and 4, and they are in the south bell tower. Bells 5 and 6, located in the north bell tower, each take one person to ring.

On Wednesday, we had a culpa service. Father Vincent preached, and the monastic community then had the opportunity to share individually and publicly how they might have offended the community through one's action or inaction.

On Thursday, Father Archabbot Kurt and Fathers Denis, Tobias, Noël, Jeremy, Luke, Bede and Julian, and Brother James attended a Louisville-area alumni and friends dinner with our Development Office staff.

We enjoyed an UnStable pizza lunch on Saturday after midday prayer.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
