Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

September 9-15, 2016

Last Saturday we blessed our upgraded refectory (dining room) in the monastery and began having meals there Sunday, starting with a scrumptious breakfast cooked by Brothers Martin and Peduru. As with any change, the more we dine in the refectory, the more we grow in familiarity and custom in this upgraded dining space.

On Wednesday, the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, Father Prior John presided at our liturgies, and we had colloquium (talking) at dinner.

Father Abbot Kurt reported from Rome that the Benedictine Abbot's Congress elected Abbot Gregory Polan from Conception Abbey as the Abbot Primate of the whole Benedictine Confederation for an eight-year term. Father Abbot Kurt has also been able to spend time with our confreres, Father Prior Cassian and Father Edward.

We will have our quadrennial visitation from November 3-7. We will not have an in-depth study for this visitation since we had that before the election of Archabbot Kurt. Brothers Francis and Benjamin, and Fathers Eugene  and Denis will be preparing the report needed for the visitation.

Father Christian shared an overview of his experience with some "One Bread, One Cup" interns and their pilgrimage to Poland for World Youth Day, which culminated in a visit to the Abbey of Einsiedeln. He concluded by saying:

The pilgrimage to World Youth Day and Einsiedeln will never be forgotten by us. It was a terrific experience to witness the beautifully diverse Catholic Church. It was a chance for us - Saint Meinrad and One Bread, One Cup - to be represented, in however humble a way - at this gathering of the Church. And our trip to Einsiedeln was a chance to connect us all with the great roots of our community and tradition at Saint Meinrad.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
