Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

October 28-November 3, 2016

A brief update and good news from Archabbot Kurt: "We are almost completely back in our monastery. The Great Doors have been replaced, the conference room has been prepared for the visitation, and the guest rooms have been cleaned and set up. The grass is growing in the inner courtyard."

It's starting to look like home around here, and it helps that the fall leaves are showing their colors.

Last Sunday, Father Noël led the last Monte Cassino pilgrimage with his talk on "Our Lady Underground of Chartres Cathedral." Stay tuned for our May dates and pilgrimage topics.

Those in solemn profession began wearing their cucullas this week starting with I Vespers of All Saints. Archabbot Kurt was the principal celebrant for our Eucharist and Offices on the Solemnity of All Saints on Tuesday.

We celebrated the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed on Wednesday and our Eucharist concluded with a procession to the cemetery.

Last Saturday about 100 members of our Abbot Martin Marty Guild spent the day here on the Hill for a day of recollection. Archabbot Kurt gave the conferences to participants and presided at their closing liturgy in St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. There were opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, with Fathers Noël, Rupert and Barnabas.

For your prayer and reflection: Here is a video of our schola chanting the beatitudes on the Solemnity of All Saints.

On Thursday and through Monday, we began our Visitation with Abbot President Vincent Bataille, Father Patrick Caveglia from Benet Lake, and Brother Prior Daniel Walters from Glastonbury. It is an opportunity for us to share our honest feedback with the visitators about our life in the monastery. The overview they submit to us of themes they heard from our interviews will be helpful for us to continue growing in our pursuit of conversatio as a community.

On Thursday, Brothers Peduru, Cassian (Subiaco Abbey) and Antony-Maria (Marmion Abbey), along with their classmates, made candidacy to the priesthood during Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. Congratulations on this next step, brothers!

Father Guy, in another update on the Abbey forest, gave an update on some of the financial benefits of our property. He concluded with the following: "The mature forest of the Abbey is especially beautiful right now in the late October (November) sunlight, but it is hard to put a monetary value on that. "

If you're in our area, stop by on campus to soak in the beautiful landscape and join us for our prayer throughout the day.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
