Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

October 21-27, 2016

A handful of our Development Office staff and Archabbot Kurt and Father Julian ventured north this week for our Northwest Ohio area alumni and friend dinner on Tuesday.

Father Denis R. gave the Monte Cassino pilgrimage talk on Sunday: "Mary, Mother of the Home." Father Noël will give the last conference of our October pilgrimages.

Father Barnabas led the "Monastic Life as it is Lived Today" retreat through the Guest House last weekend.

Brother Francis has some new blog posts: Do We Need God? and What do you Knead?

On Sunday, we held a piano and violin concert by Dr. Diane Earle and Mr. Alfred Abel in the St. Bede Theater.

Brothers James and Simon represented Saint Meinrad at a Vocation Night at St. Paul Parish in Bloomington, Indiana, on Sunday. Students from Indiana University stayed around after Mass to mix and mingle during dinner with several religious communities. Dominicans staff the parish, several of whom have made retreats at Saint Meinrad.

Tonight (Friday) we are carving pumpkins after Compline. Stay tuned for some pictures of our creations.

Father Noël gave some conferences to the Lexington presbyteral assembly gathered here this week. They joined our community for vespers a couple times during the week.

Some of us are also keeping up to speed with the World Series…we have both Indians and Cubs fans in the house.

We keep in mind in a special way next week All Saints and All Souls. On All Souls day on Wednesday, we will make our visit to the cemetery after Mass to commemorate our brothers who have gone before us whose perseverance is a model for us.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
