Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

August 5 - August 11, 2016

Brother Kolbe, former Novice Tony Wolniakowski, took temporary vows on the Feast of the Transfiguration this past Saturday in the presence of the monastic community and several members of his family. His patron saint is St. Maximillian Kolbe whose feast day is August 14. He will be in temporary vows of obedience, stability and conversatio for a period of three years. See more on Brother Kolbe here.

Most of us are settling in to our monastery cells from our "Exodus" out of the monastery this past year and a couple months. Our temporary rooms over on the "school side" are now being tidied up for guest housing and various office spaces. Our infirmary residents move back around the beginning or middle of September as the upgrade to our infirmary in the monastery wraps up. On Tuesday we had a formal transition ritual back to our monastic home led by Archabbot Kurt.

Brothers Nathaniel and Jean entered a few beers into the beer competition in Jasper at their annual Strassenfest town festival. They enjoyed the experience and learned more about beer brewing and competition opportunities.

We have had a number of vocations guests join us in recent weeks for visits and to understand better monastic life and how God might be calling them to this way of life. We have a monastic observance from September 23-25 with 3 young men already signed up. Please encourage men in your parishes, at work or in your community who might make a good fit in our community to consider this monastic observance opportunity. Here is more information about the "Come and See" weekend.

This past Sunday, several monks attended the first of our fall Alumni and Friend dinners. This first dinner was held at Kye's I and II in Jeffersonville, IN for those in the Louisville, KY area.

Continue praying for our Brothers Peduru, James and William. They make solemn profession on Monday, August 15. Father Eugene has met with them twice each day Monday through Friday this week leading them through reflections on the parables. He shared some reflections during the morning conferences, and they prepared reflections for the afternoon conferences.

Be assured of our continued prayers.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
