April 2015 Week 1 March 28-April 3

It has been a relatively quiet week this week -- and timely as we reflect on Holy Week and the Triduum. Know of our prayers for you as you anticipate the Holy Feast of Easter.

Last weekend Br. Zachary led a retreat for 35 women from the St. Bartholomew Women's group. The topic was "Living the Sermon on the Mount."

Starting on Wednesday, Fr. Colman began directing the Holy Week retreat for several guests. We have enjoyed their presence with us in our Holy Week and Triduum liturgies. They also joined us last night for our evening meal of Holy Thursday.

On Tuesday, Archabbot Justin, Br. Kim, and Novices John and Timothy attended the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Chrism Mass at the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis.

Archabbot Justin presided at our Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper liturgy and Fr. Brendan gave the homily. Archabbot Justin washed the feet of several novices and monks and several guests. In his homily, Fr. Brendan challenged us, "Like Jesus, we must lift others up through our service. Like Jesus, we too are to be blessed, broken and shared for the sake of others."

The prayer after communion for the Chrism Mass seems like a fitting way to end this week's About the House as we look to serve as Christ served and to love like Christ loved:

We beseech you, almighty God,

that those you renew by your Sacraments,

may merit to become the pleasing fragrance of Christ.

Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

Have a blessed and joyful Easter!

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
