The Archabbey Library provides access to hundreds of biblical commentaries in both print and eBook format.
Do an Advanced Search of the library catalog.
In the search box type “bible.[book of the bible you’re interested in]” (i.e., "bible. Exodus" and then choose "Subject" in the dropdown box next to the search box. You will find a number of book length commentaries. Your search will return books and articles on [book of the Bible you’re interested in]. Many will be eBooks that you can access from your computer. To limit your results to eBooks, check the “eBook” box to the left of your search results.
If you identify print books not available in electronic format you need to look at, Library Staff can scan and send you the chapters on your passage. You can request scans of articles or book chapters by email from Library@saintmeinrad.edu or by using the Document Delivery Form on the library website.

You will also find commentary in peer-reviewed academic articles using our databases. Unlike book length commentaries, journal articles concentrate on a specific topic or biblical passage.

These databases have scripture indexes and can be searched separately, or you can select the box next to each database’s name and do a search of the databases together.
When you open each database, you will see tabs at the top left-hand corner. Click on the one that says “Scriptures.” Locate the book of the Bible you’re interested in. Click on “expand”. You can narrow your search by further expanding a chapter to its verses.
You can also limit results to full-text articles by clicking the box next to your results marked "full text."
Academic Search Complete
This is a multidisciplinary EBSCO database with more than 8,500 periodicals and indexing/abstracting for more than 12,500 journals and 13,200 other publications. It does not have a scripture index. Here is a link: Academic Search Complete
JSTOR is a multidisciplinary database with more than 12 million articles, books and primary sources. JSTOR contains many articles and books on biblical themes and books of the bible. Here is the link to JSTOR: https://www.jstor.org/
Google Scholar is a search engine from Google that searches the entire internet for academic resources. Google Scholar can be set up to link to Saint Meinrad’s resources so that when you search it will link you to articles that you can access through Archabbey Library. The set up is easy.
