Payroll/Staff Accountant

Basic Function: Perform all activities necessary to manage and process payrolls. Perform various duties, including analysis of payroll and accounting data as well as other accounting operations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and process payroll and short-term disability for Saint Meinrad Archabbey.
  2. Administration of payroll deductions and retirement contributions.
  3. Responsible for all payroll and disability tax activities, including compliance with local, state and federal regulations and filing local, state and federal tax returns, including W2's.
  4. Provide direction and answer questions of co-workers about payroll.
  5. Process activities of the ACH/electronic banking system.
  6. Responsible for the management of the Blackbaud payroll and TimeClock Plus time management systems.
  7. Monitor payroll to ensure consistent application of policies and laws and provide feedback to management.
  8. Work closely with Assistant Treasurer to manage and analyze accounting data.
  9. Analyze credit card activity through Merchant Services and Heartland (POS).
  10. Prepare various accounting transactions and documents and special reports for senior management and auditors.
  11. Maintain payroll records and histories.
  12. Maintain sales and fuel tax records and file returns according to existing rates, laws and regulations.

Experience & Qualifications

Associate's degree in accounting or equivalent. Two to four years of experience. 

Strong numeric, interpersonal, computer, organizational, communication and reading skills.
