Chant Pedagogy and Vocal Technique

This workshop is designed for directors of liturgical music and singers in parish liturgies. Dr. Rosemary Heredos together with Br. Joel Blaize and Br. John Glasenapp will lead this week-long workshop focused on vocal technique and pedagogy as it relates to singing chant. We will explore proper breath support, posture, diction, warming up, and reducing strain that may compromise the voice over time. The focus is predominantly on performance and schola rehearsal, though talks and discussions will also address practical elements of singing and conducting chant in parishes. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the liturgies of Saint Meinrad’s Benedictine monastic community, as well as to form and sing in a chant schola.
Current and prospective students in our Graduate Theology Program may register for this course for academic credit. To enroll as a student, do not use this registration form. Register as you would for other courses.
Note: The workshop begins at 1:30 p.m. CT Monday and ends after lunch on Friday.
