Saint Meinrad Archabbey Cultural Events, St. Meinrad, IN, will present a violin concert titled “Violin Sketches” on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. Central Time in the St. Bede Hall Theater.
The concert will be performed by Sun-Young Shin-Romm on violin and Kevina Lam on piano. The program will feature pieces by composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Maurice Ravel, Christoph Willibald Gluck, and César Franck.
Shin-Romm is recognized for her sensitive and sensible approach to music. Her experience in performing baroque and modern violin music has led her to perform globally as a soloist, chamber musician, and as an orchestra leader.
She has held leadership positions with the Sarasota Opera, Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, and Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana. She also served as choirmaster of the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra in Alabama.
In 2022, Shin-Romm co-founded DeSota Baroque to make 17th- and 18th-century music more accessible to a broader audience. She holds degrees from University of Illinois, Northwestern University, and Oberlin College.
Kevina Lam has made frequent solo appearances with orchestras in Macau and Europe since her debut at age 14. She is in high demand as a collaborative artist, most notably with the flute and the saxophone studios at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before being appointed as the faculty collaborative pianist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Lam served as faculty at Eastern Illinois University.
A Doctor of Musical Arts graduate from the University of Illinois, Lam studied with esteemed teachers in Asia and North America, including Gabriel Kwok at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Professor William Heiles at the University of Illinois. Currently, Lam is on the faculty at the School of Music of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
