Introduction

Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology and Saint Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana seeks a new director of the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library. Newly renovated, the library houses a print collection of approximately 165,000 volumes, as well as a shared print collection with 24 private academic libraries throughout Indiana and a wide range of electronic resources. The library plays a critical role in supporting the educational mission of the Seminary and School of Theology, which is the initial and ongoing formation of priests, permanent deacons, and laity to minister together effectively in the service and evangelization of the Roman Catholic Church and the world. It also supports the ongoing intellectual, pastoral, spiritual, and human formation of a vibrant community of Benedictine monks.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a strategic vision for the library’s future in a time of profound change.
  • Develop the library collection in keeping with the research needs of faculty, students, monks, and the wider public.
  • Provide effective leadership and oversight of library staff and student workers.
  • Attend faculty meetings as a voting member of the faculty and participate in other educational policy making sessions.
  • Provide training in use of library resources for academic research.
  • Prepare and administer the annual budget.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Participate in library association meetings, such as Private Academic Library Networks of Indiana (PALNI), Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI), American Theological Librarian Association (ATLA), and Catholic Library Association (CLA).
  • Engage in professional development necessary for keeping current with developments in library management and with academic research in theology and related fields.

Experience & Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in a college, university, or related setting that demonstrates leadership ability and direct knowledge of library operations and academic research.
  • A graduate degree in a subject relevant to the educational mission of Saint Meinrad.
  • Respect for the Catholic identity and mission of Saint Meinrad.
  • Advanced knowledge of online databases, services, and emerging technologies related to academic research.
  • Experience with budget management and supervision of personnel.
