Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery, St. Meinrad, IN, will host an exhibit of biblical personalities by Louisville, KY, artist Roy Clayton from July 20 – August 31, 2026.
Clayton is an intuitive, self-taught artist originally from San Diego, CA. Since 2016, he has resided in Louisville, KY. In addition to being an artist, he is a musician and a poet.
His work is both abstract and representational. Vibrant colors are expressive and joyful. Geometric shapes dominate the pictorial space. However, each image portrays a particular person. The series in this exhibit consists of biblical personalities.
Clayton’s art is always about people. If someone piques his interest, he begins with the face. “I put pen, paintbrush, colored pencils, ink, watercolor, acrylic, grease, or watercolor pencils on paper and just start,” he says.
His works are sometimes described as “outsider art.” In 2025, he had an exhibit in the Outsider Art Museum and Gallery in Louisville, KY.
For library hours, call (812) 357-6401 or (800) 987-7311, or visit the Archabbey Library’s website saintmeinrad.edu/library/library-hours/.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Those wishing to view the exhibit may want to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time.
