By biblical definition, hope is a confident expectation and desire for something good in the future, rooted in faith and trust in God. Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, has this hope as they explore ways to engage their families and parishioners of all ages in Mass, in the community, and at home. The Children’s Revival of Participation in Sunday Mass grant provided the structure for their team to brainstorm and try out ideas to bring energy and life to their parish. Their goal is to excite the children, which will rub off on the parents and ultimately bring them to Mass all while increasing participation.
One family focused activity has been First Friday Family Adoration. It’s an announced time, where it’s ok to walk around, to whisper an explanation, to spend a few quiet moments with Jesus, and to connect Eucharistic Adoration to our families who have been intimidated to bring children. Mothers with small children have been especially thankful for this dedicated time to pop in if it works out that day. The team has a table set up with age-appropriate items for kids to use while at adoration. In May 2025, approximately 37 children attended with a parent during the announced/dedicated time. The time spent in adoration has been cited as “a meaningful stop in our day.” The team has a basket near the altar that children can put colored pictures in, drawings, and prayer requests from this young group. A mother of a pre-school student posted on social media “What better place to color a picture than at the feet of Jesus?”
The team at Sts. Peter and Paul has hope to continue to build on the foundation that generations before us built. The ultimate goal is to build disciples. The core of their ideas and purpose is to empower children and families to go forth and serve. It is always the goal to evangelize where we can and that is part of the mission of this grant. The mission of their team has been to develop, promote, and hold events to bring their parish family together, cultivating a rich, Catholic atmosphere for all families with members of all ages to celebrate their Catholic faith through teachings, prayer, saints, feasts, and communication. Whatever happens because of this grant will be monumental for our families, children, and parish. Let’s build the kingdom of disciples to go forth to serve, evangelize, and worship with the HOPE that we find in scripture. Romans 15:13
