Borrowing Privileges

For faculty, the loan period for circulating books is 120 days with two 120-day renewals. Books can be renewed online using the link at the top of the library's search page, by calling the library at (800) 987-7311 or (812) 357-6401, or in person at the circulation desk. DVDs and CDs from the Vibrary have a 14-day loan period with two renewals. To begin borrowing books, faculty must complete and sign an application.

Access to Online Resources

Databases, online journals, e-books and electronic reference sources, such as the Oxford English Dictionary and Oxford Reference Online, can be accessed from any computer on the Hill.

For off-campus access, users need to log in to use electronic resources. If you have a Saint Meinrad email account, you can use your email login as your library login.  This is the same login you use for the Learning Management System (Moodle). If you do not have a Saint Meinrad email account, you will need to set up a special library login using your library account number as your username.  Here are instructions: Setting up your password in WorldCat.  The library can supply users with their account numbers by phone at (800) 987-7311 or (812) 357-6401, or by email.

Interlibrary Loan

If the Archabbey Library does not have a book or article, it will borrow it from another library upon request. In most cases, there is no charge for this service. To request something through Interlibrary Loan, send your request through our online form or drop off your request at the Circulation Desk.

BORROWING FROM OTHER LIBRARIES

Saint Meinrad has reciprocal borrowing arrangements with the following library consortia:

PALNI Libraries
Archabbey Library shares a catalog and direct borrowing privileges with 23 academic libraries in Indiana. Here is a map and list of PALNI institutions. Saint Meinrad library patrons can borrow from any PALNI library by presenting a Saint Meinrad ID in person.

Patrons can also directly request books and DVDs from other PALNI libraries through our shared catalog. After you have done a search in WorldCat Discovery, if your library does not own the item, but another PALNI library does, you can request it via PALShare! Start by clicking on the title of the item you'd like to request. Then, click the "Place hold" button directly below the Availability tab.

Log in to your account, and click the Submit button on the next screen.

Unless you get an error message, the hold has been placed and should be available at your local library in about 2 to 5 business days. You will receive an email when the item is available for pickup. Books are loaned for 60 days and media items for 14. Items can be returned at any PALNI library. Items cannot be renewed. Please speak with a librarian if you have any issues or receive an error message while using PALShare!

Academic Libraries of Indiana
Almost every college and university in Indiana is a member of Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI). Anyone with borrowing privileges at an ALI library can borrow items directly from other ALI libraries. Click on the link to see the list of ALI member libraries. To set up borrowing privileges at an ALI library, please begin by contacting the Archabbey Library by phone at (800) 987-7311 or (812) 357-6401, or by email.

Team-A Libraries
Team-A is a consortium of five seminary libraries in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. Member libraries are the Archabbey Library, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary Library, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Library, Ashbury Theological Seminary Library and Lexington Theological Seminary Library.

ATLA Reciprocal Borrowing
The ATLA Reciprocal Borrowing Program creates an arrangement between participating North American ATLA Institutional Members to grant check-out privileges to each other's patrons/students.

A patron/student walks into a participating library, shows proof of current enrollment at another participating library, and checks out materials based on the library's local lending policies. Here is a map of participating libraries.

Document Delivery

If you are unable to get to the library and you need a copy of an article from a periodical that is accessible only in print format, we will send you a PDF copy of the article. For document delivery, use our online form to send your request.

Accessibility

The Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library is accessible to patrons who have a disability. Entrances to both the top and bottom floors have been designed for accessibility. The handicapped entrance at the bottom floor is through the double glass doors near the loading dock on the south side of the building. The entrance is equipped with an intercom through which you can communicate with the Circulation Desk and request entry.

When entering from the monastery or the seminary, use the ramp to the left of the main stairs leading down to the top floor entrance. Patrons who would like to request special help in accessing the library or using its collections should call ahead to (812) 357-6401 or (800) 987-7311 or email.
