New book features plays about Lincoln

Lincoln -Play -Bk -Cover -for -webA new book featuring two play scripts written by Benedictine monk Fr. Gavin Barnes has been published. The plays are titled "The Indiana Years" and "Between Friends."

Fr. Gavin is a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, IN, where he taught and directed theater for 38 years at its seminary.

During his career, Fr. Gavin has written a number of play scripts. The two included in this book feature Abraham Lincoln, the 16th U.S. president.

"The Indiana Years" recounts young Abe's boyhood in Spencer County, IN, where he lived for 14 years. It was performed as part of the Indiana sesquicentennial celebration in 1959.

"Between Friends" was a feature of the 2012 season at the Lincoln State Park Amphitheatre in Lincoln City, IN. The action takes place during the Civil War, where a friendship develops between Lincoln and his generals, Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman.
