Introduction
Saint Meinrad Archabbey is looking for an individual with a passion for mechanics and an eye for detail, we invite you to apply for the Machinist/Welder & Fleet Mechanic.
This position would be responsible for serving as Fleet Mechanic performing required maintenance, estimate repair cost, scheduling repairs, and inventory. Other responsibilities include using their expertise in repairing, building, and replacing metal components for machinery and other general maintenance items for facilities.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates pneumatic powered press, hydraulic pumps and components, drill presses, and tungsten-carbide cutting tips, acetylene torches, plasma cutter, Arc-MIG-TIG welders.
- Fabricates saw blades, chain saw chains, paper cutter blades and shears using power grinder and files.
- Deals with vendors and orders shop/mechanical supplies and restock as necessary.
- Performs required maintenance on vehicles, machinery and equipment, which will include engine/transmission oil/filter changes, rotating/balancing & tire replacement, tune-ups, turning rotators, installing new brakes, wheel bearing, struts, shocks, alternators & battery replacement, returning vehicles to dealerships for recall bulletins, in worst case scenario minor overhauls of various vehicle components, repair electrical shorts and bulb & LED replacements.
- Studies blueprints, specifications, has the ability to listen and visualizes shapes or die, parts and tools required. In some cases, build machines from scratch.
- Measures, marks, and scribes' metal or plastic stock to be laid out or machined.
- Capable of setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders to machine parts.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts using measuring instructions. Tolerances between no more than .001 to .0002.
- Smooths/polishes flat and contoured surfaces of parts with stones, files, emery cloth or power grinder.
Experience & Qualifications
- Capable of Arc-MIG-TIG welding
- Strong math/mechanical skills
- Ability to read blueprints
- Experience in assemblies, parts machining, maintaining maintenance/machinery records.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience
