Andrea Hoelscher exhibits photos titled "Little Women"
Sunday, January 13- Thursday, February 21
Location: Archabbey Library Gallery
Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery, St. Meinrad, IN, will
host an exhibit of photographs by Andrea Hoelscher called "Little
Women." The exhibit will be on display from January 13 to February
21.
Hoelscher says her "Little Women" series is a
reflection on learned gender roles. The photos are illustrated with
household scenes populated with female figurines. "The women in
these photographs are surrounded by the domestic trappings of
femininity. Sponges and laundry piles loom like buildings, and a
muffin tin becomes a sticky trap. Instead of actually doing
housework, or applying make-up, the women encounter these objects
as the basis of the very world they explore."
The Ferdinand, IN, photographer has a bachelor of fine arts in
photography and drawing from the University of Northern Iowa and a
master of fine arts in photography from the School of the Art
Institute of Chicago.
She has exhibited her work in shows and galleries in New York,
Kansas, Minnesota, Kentucky, Virginia, Oregon, North Dakota,
Illinois and Ohio. Currently, she is an adjunct faculty member in
the Art Department of the University of Southern Indiana in
Evansville.
