Msgr. Frederick C. Easton, JCL, is a
retired priest of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, where he served
as the Metropolitan Tribunal's vicar judicial from 1983 until his
retirement in 2011.
In 1994, Msgr. Easton was elected to national office as
secretary for the Canon Law Society of America. He was later
elected as vice president and then president of the society. In May
2002, he was appointed chairperson of the Special Task Force on the
Canonical Response to Sexual Abuse Cases, with a later
re-appointment as chairperson of the Special Task Force to prepare
the "Guide to the Implementation of the U. S. Bishops' Essential
Norms for Diocesan/Eparchial Policies Dealing with Allegations of
Sexual Abuse of Minors by Priests or Deacons."
In July of 2003, Msgr. Easton was re-appointed chairperson of
the successor committee of the Special Task Force, now called the
Committee On The Canonical Aspects Of Questions Regarding The
Sexual Abuse Of Minors.
In recognition of his work through this difficult time, and in
recognition of his leadership in the field of canon law, the Canon
Law Society of America conferred upon Msgr. Easton its highest
honor, The Role of Law, in October of 2003.
