Here are brief profiles of some members of the Saint Meinrad
monastic community.
Br. Matthew Mattingly, OSB
Monk-Senior
Title: Student
Born: February 24, 1975
Professed: August 6, 2007
Prior Work/Life Experience:
I spent ten years in the home improvement industry; most of that
time working as a business consultant for a wholesaler/retail
franchise.
Education History:
- BS, Business Administration, Indiana University
- MS degree work, Ball State University
Work in the Monastery:
I am currently a full-time student in our school pursuing a lay
degree in Catholic Thought and Life. I also do work in our
vocations office and am learning to be a photographer.
Other Interests:
I especially enjoy reading and writing; history is a favorite
subject. I am studying Latin and I am interested in learning other
languages. I like the outdoors; especially jogging or riding my
bike on nice days. Since joining the monastery, I have taken up
photography as a hobby.
What Attracted Me to Monastic Life:
Monastic life, as I see it, is about hearing the Word of God as it
speaks to us through the liturgy, the reading of scripture and
especially, here, through the demands that community life puts upon
us, and allowing ourselves to become transformed by it.
