Here are brief profiles of some members of the Saint Meinrad
monastic community.
Br. Martin Erspamer, OSB
Monk-Senior
Title: Artist
Born: July 28, 1953
Professed: August 15, 1972
Prior Work/Life Experience:
I spent 33 years in a Marianist religious community, including
several years working in missions in India. I have also worked as a
liturgical artist and consultant. I spent some time working as a
stained glass designer for Emil Frei and Associates Stained Glass
of St. Louis, Missouri.
Education History:
- 1976, BFA, St. Mary's University/Art Institute of San
Antonio;
- 1986, MFA, Boston University;
- 1995, Certification for Liturgical Consultancy, Catholic
Theological Union of Chicago;
Work in the Monastery:
I work as a liturgical design consultant for parishes and
religious communities throughout the United States and as a
designer for Emil Frei and Associates Stained Glass Company in St.
Louis, MO.
Other Interests:
Exercise, cooking and music.
What Attracted Me to Monastic Life:
The longer I stay in religious life, the more there is to
learn and internalize. The monastery is a good place to learn. It
is a school for conversion of heart and for charity. This is where
I belong.
