During its 25th annual Service Recognition Banquet on April 10, 2013, Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, IN, honored 75 active co-workers and 57 retirees who have 25 years or more of service.

Fr. Adrian Burke, OSB, a monk of Saint Meinrad, addressed those attending the banquet.

"Though themselves not members of the religious community of monks, our lay co-workers are considered associate members of the broader Saint Meinrad Archabbey community," said Fr. Adrian. "These men and women labor side-by-side with the monks to serve the Church through programs of education and spiritual formation, retreats and hospitality, and through our two business entities, the Abbey Press and Abbey Caskets. As I've said many times, Saint Meinrad's mission would not be achievable without the hard work of so many dedicated co-workers working alongside us monks!"

Ten co-workers received special recognition during the banquet.

Charlotte Hassfurther of Ferdinand was honored for reaching 50 years of service. Starting in 1963, she spent 43 years working in the Laundry, holding several different positions until the department closed in 2006. She then began a career in the Housekeeping Department, where she stayed until retiring this past January. She was presented a framed print of the Archabbey Church.

Also recognized at the banquet, Trudy Esarey of Leopold, Pat Scherer of Evanston and Steve Wichman of Bristow were honored for 40 years of service.

Trudy Esarey is the production manager for Abbey Press Publications, Pat Scherer is the cost engineer/scheduler in the General & Administrative Department at Abbey Press Plant 2, and Steve Wichman is the manager/purchasing director at Abbey Press Plant 2. Each received a double set of specially minted solid silver coins depicting St. Meinrad, the martyr of hospitality, on the front and the Archabbey's coat of arms on the back.

Honored for 25 years of service were: Michele Bland of Branchville, Marsha Cooper of Dale, Peggy Franchville of Bristow, Ron Meyer of St. Meinrad, Scott Strobel of Tell City and Trina Strobel of Adyeville.

Michele Bland is the trade stocker in the Shipping Department at Abbey Press Plant 2, Marsha Cooper is a sales/stock clerk at the Archabbey Gift Shop, Peggy Franchville works in Shipping as a receiving/warehouse/returns processor and soap maker, Ron Meyer holds the position of lead electrician in Physical Facilities, Scott Strobel is the director of design and photography in Marketing Services at Abbey Press and Trina Strobel is the grounds department lead person in Physical Facilities. They were presented with the Saint Meinrad silver coin.
