Piano and cello concert

Wednesday, June 13
Time: 7:30 p.m. Central Time
Location: St. Bede Theater

A concert of piano and cello music will be presented on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. Central Time in St. Bede Theater on the campus of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, IN.

John Winninger, cellist, studied both cello performance and radio-TV production at Indiana University. He was a founding member and first chair cellist of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and the Bloomington Pops, while also being a member of a string quartet.

Currently, he directs many of the livestreams of operas and special concerts for the Jacobs School of Music, while playing as much chamber music as possible.

Diane Rivera, pianist, earned degrees at Drake University and the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She has taught piano at the University of Evansville, the Peabody Preparatory Department, Drake University, Westminster Choir College and the University of Richmond.

Co-founder of the pre-college Young Pianists Program at Indiana University, she was a solo recitalist in Texas, the Midwest, and the Eastern seaboard states. A mutual love of chamber music brought John and Diane together in 1993 through the Bloomington Community Chamber Music Association. Thus, the Winninger-Rivera Duo was formed.

The program will consist of the Romance enLa majeur, Op. 69 by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924); Waldesruhe (Silent Woods), Op. 68, No. 5 by Antonin Dvorak (1841- 1904); and the Sonata in G minor, Op. 65 by Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849).

The program is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Guest House and student parking lots. For more information, contact Mary Jeanne Schumacher during business hours at (812) 357-6501.
